History & meaning
The Hebrew line comes first. אֲרִי, ari, is a word for a lion, with the fuller form aryeh appearing throughout the Hebrew Bible; Genesis 49:9 calls Judah a lion's whelp, and the lion has been Judah's emblem ever since. Ashkenazi families made a small tradition of the double name Aryeh Leib, pairing the Hebrew and Yiddish words for the same animal, and modern Israeli Hebrew uses Ari on its own without ceremony.
The Norse line is entirely separate. Old Norse ari meant eagle, and Icelanders have used it as a given name since the settlement period. Ari Þorgilsson, writing around 1130, produced Íslendingabók, the oldest surviving history written in Icelandic, and the name has stayed in use on the island ever since. A third strand runs through English: Ari is what people call an Ariel, an Arieh or, in the case of the Greek shipowner Aristotle Onassis, an Aristotle. One spelling, three unrelated routes to it, and no need to choose between them.
Why parents choose it
Two syllables, three letters, no silent anything, and it survives translation into Hebrew, Icelandic and English intact. Parents should know that Ari is also used for girls in the United States, usually as a short form of Ariana or Arielle, so the name reads as somewhat unisex there even though its Hebrew and Norse histories are firmly masculine.
Middle names for Ari

Famous Aris
Ari Þorgilsson is the deepest bearer, an Icelandic chronicler nine centuries old. Ari Aster, born 1986, is the American writer and director of Hereditary and Midsommar. Ari Fleischer served as White House press secretary from 2001 to 2003. The name also belongs to Aristotle Onassis by nickname, which is how most of the twentieth century knew him.
Consider instead
If the appeal is the compact Hebrew shape, Asa is two syllables of biblical calm and just as short. Ezra shares the vowel-heavy sound with a good deal more history attached.
