History & meaning
Three traditions arrive independently at the same four letters. In the Armenian one, Aram is the sixth in descent from Hayk, a conqueror whose reputation Khorenatsi says was large enough that the neighbours renamed the whole country after him: Armenia to the Greeks, Armenik to the Persians. In the Hebrew one, Aram is a son of Shem in Genesis, the ancestor of the Arameans and the origin of the word Aramaic; as ordinary vocabulary it means highland, which fits the terrain either tradition is describing. In Persian, ārām means calm, and gives an unrelated name that happens to be spelled the same way.
Armenian usage runs continuously from the medieval chronicles to the present, and the modern name owes much of its reach to one bearer, whose ballet scores put it on concert programmes worldwide. Because none of its three sources needs the others, Aram is one of the few Armenian names that an English speaker, an Israeli and an Iranian will each recognise without explanation.
Why parents choose it
It travels. Two syllables, no consonant cluster, no spelling conversation at the school gate, and a heritage claim that stays legible in three directions at once. Parents who want an Armenian name that will not be corrected for the rest of a child's life tend to arrive here early.

Famous Arams
Aram Khachaturian (1903–1978) wrote the ballets Gayane and Spartacus, and with them the Sabre Dance, probably the most-played eight bars any Armenian ever composed. Aram Saroyan, son of the writer William Saroyan, is an American poet known for the minimalist work of the 1960s.
Consider instead
