That is why Diamond Head is Kaimana Hila in Hawaiian and in the song of that name — British sailors in the 1820s found calcite crystals on the slope, took them for diamonds, and the borrowed word stuck to a headland whose Hawaiian name was already Lēʻahi.
The second answer reads the same four syllables as native vocabulary: kai, the sea, and mana, which English has borrowed but flattened. Mana is not merely power; it is spiritual authority, something a person can inherit, accumulate or lose, and it attaches to places and objects as well as people.
