History & meaning
Sibusiso is isibusiso, "a blessing", with the class prefix taken off — the same move that turns isipho into Sipho and isizwe into Sizwe. Underneath sits the verb busisa, to bless. As a statement about a child it is about as direct as naming gets, and it belongs to the large family of Nguni names that report what the parents felt rather than describing the baby.
Zulu and Xhosa are close relatives, and blessing is a good place to see where they part. Zulu leans on busisa; Xhosa prefers sikelela, the verb in the line everyone in the country knows, with intsikelelo for the noun. So Sibusiso is recognisably from the Zulu side of the Nguni fence, though Swati and Ndebele families use it freely, and in Eswatini it is thoroughly at home — one of the southern African names that crosses a border without changing shape. At four syllables it is the longest of the common Zulu men’s names, which is why the clipped Sbu is so entrenched that many bearers are known by nothing else.

It is unambiguous, warm and slightly ceremonious, and it comes with its own nickname built in. Parents who want a long name with a short everyday version do not have to invent one. Sibusiso Vilane reached the summit of Everest on 26 May 2003, the first Black African to do so, and climbed it again from the north side in 2005; he has since completed the seven summits. Sibusiso Zuma was the South African winger of Borussia Dortmund and FC Copenhagen.
Consider instead
