History & meaning
Nothing about Dohyun means anything until you know which characters are on the family register. Korean given names are typically two Sino-Korean syllables, each written with a hanja the parents choose from a legally approved list, and the same sound can be written a dozen ways with a dozen senses. For 현 the most frequent choice by a distance is 賢, virtuous or worthy, the character in 賢人 for a sage. 顯 means illustrious, 炫 means to shine, and 鉉 is the odd, lovely one: the bar used to lift a ceremonial bronze cauldron, borrowed in classical usage for the minister who holds up the state.
The first syllable is where the name gets its centre. 道 is the Way — the same character as Chinese dào and Japanese dō, the one at the end of taekwondo, judo and every other discipline that treats a practice as a path. A Dohyun written 道賢 is a wise man on that road, which is about as tidy as Korean two-character naming gets. Two caveats keep any single gloss honest. Families may register a child in hangul only, with no hanja at all, in which case there is no dictionary meaning to look up. Why parents choose it
It arrived with the generational shift away from the hard, consonant-heavy names Korean men born before the 1980s tend to carry, and it has the qualities that shift was reaching for: open vowels, a soft middle, and a meaning that stays dignified rather than cute. It also survives English print without acquiring an accidental second pronunciation.

Two things make this name hard to track in English. The first is arithmetic: it climbed the registry recently enough that most Korean Dohyuns are schoolchildren. The second is spelling. Revised Romanization says Do-hyeon, the passport office and the football federation frequently write Do-hyun, and the older academic system says Tohyŏn, so one man can be indexed three ways across three databases. Consider instead
Doyun shares the 도 and lands softer at the end. Hyunwoo leads with the same 현 instead of closing on it. Jihoon belongs to the slightly older generation of the same style and has more weight behind it.
