History & meaning
민 is the half that does the work here, and it has four characters worth knowing. 敏 is quickness — not of foot but of mind, the character in the word for sensitivity and sharp perception. 珉 is a stone that resembles jade, beautiful but not the real thing, which Korean naming treats as a compliment rather than a hedge. 旻 is the autumn sky. 民 is the people, a heavier and more civic choice. Most Minhos are registered with 敏 or 珉. The second syllable comes from the same 호 family that ends Junho, most often 浩, vast.
Worth saying plainly, because English coverage of Korean celebrities muddles it constantly: Korean puts the family name first. Lee Min-ho is Mr Lee, not Mr Min-ho, and the given name is the two syllables at the end. Nor is that given name used freely — Korean speakers address people by title or relationship far more often than by name, so a Minho may go years hearing seonbae or hyung from the people who know him best.
