History & meaning
Everything hangs on 俊. The character is built from the person radical beside a phonetic element, and it glosses as talented, handsome, outstanding — in classical usage a 俊 was a man of superior ability, the kind a government hoped to recruit. It has been the single most popular ending in Korean boys' names for the last twenty years, which is why Minjun sits in a crowd that includes Seojun, Hajun, Yejun, Junho and Junseo. Put 민 in front of it — 敏 for quickness of mind, 珉 for a jade-like stone, 民 for the people — and you have this name.
We can say the sound was everywhere because Korea counts it. The Supreme Court's family-register office compiles newborn name figures from the births actually filed, not from a survey, and publishes them — which is why Korean papers run a "most popular baby names" story every January, and why Minjun kept appearing at the top of the boys' side of it through the late 2000s and into the 2010s. What the count cannot see is the hanja. The register tallies the sound, while the characters are chosen household by household, so two Minjuns sharing a classroom may be named for quickness of mind and for a jade-like stone and neither will find that strange. Why parents choose it
It is the safest possible Korean name, in the good sense: instantly legible to any Korean speaker, flattering in its characters, current enough that a child will not feel named after a grandfather. Abroad it holds up well, though English speakers occasionally want to hear the second syllable as the month of June.

Famous Minjuns
The best-known Minjun is not a real person. Do Min-joon, the four-hundred-year-old alien of the 2013 drama My Love from the Star, was played by Kim Soo-hyun and became one of the most watched characters in Korean television history, across Asia as much as at home. The name's real bearers are mostly still in school, an inevitable consequence of a registry boom that started less than twenty years ago.

Seojun is the same 俊 ending with a softer opening syllable. Hajun is the least common of the three and the most current. Minho keeps the 민 and reads a generation older.
